Description
Van Gogh’s The Good Samaritan, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1890, The Good Samaritan is Van Gogh’s vivid reworking of a composition by Delacroix, an artist he revered. It shows the Samaritan lifting the wounded traveller onto his horse, the parable of compassion, reimagined in Van Gogh’s own swirling brushwork and glowing blues, golds and reds. He treated such copies as heartfelt translations into his own colour.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the swirling movement and rich colour keep the feeling of the original.
Where a moving figure scene belongs
Warm and full of movement, it suits a living room, a study or a hallway, and pairs well with warm woods and rich interiors.
