The ancient olive groves of Provence were among Vincent van Gogh’s most cherished late subjects. This collection gathers his silver-green olive trees, harvest scenes and the groves he painted through the seasons at Saint-Rémy.
Van Gogh’s olive trees, painted through the seasons
In 1889 Van Gogh painted the olive groves near the Saint-Rémy asylum again and again, drawn to their gnarled, ancient trunks and their shifting silver-green colour under the southern sun. He saw them as a counterpart to his cypresses, and worked them in rhythmic, curling strokes that make the whole grove seem to ripple and live. He also painted the women gathering the olive harvest among the trees.
This collection brings together his olive groves and harvest scenes, each available as a hand-painted oil reproduction whose silver-green brushwork keeps the movement and light of the original.
Hand-painted oil reproductions, made to order
Every piece in this collection is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto artist-grade cotton canvas by a senior studio painter, never printed and never machine-made, or as a smooth archival fine-art print at a lower price. Choose your size and orientation, then finish it rolled, stretched on a wooden frame, or in a thin or thick frame. Each canvas is made to order, quality-inspected by hand, and shipped free worldwide with a certificate of authenticity and a 30-day return guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
When did Van Gogh paint the olive groves?
Mainly in 1889 during his year at the Saint-Rémy asylum, where he painted the surrounding olive groves through the seasons as a counterpart to his cypresses.
What makes the olive paintings special?
Their rhythmic, curling brushwork and shifting silver-green colour make the ancient trees seem to ripple and live, among the most atmospheric of his late landscapes.
Are these hand-painted or prints?
Both. Each olive grove is available as a genuine hand-painted oil reproduction or as an archival fine-art print at a lower price.
Where do olive groves look best?
Their calm silver-green tones suit a living room, study or bright hallway, and pair beautifully with wood, greenery and natural light.
