Description
Van Gogh’s The Old Tower in the Fields, hand-painted in oil
Painted around 1884 near Nuenen, The Old Tower in the Fields shows the ruined medieval church tower that stood among the fields near Van Gogh’s home, a subject he painted several times. He saw the crumbling tower, soon to be demolished, as a symbol of the passing of the old peasant world, and rendered it in sombre, earthy colour under a broad sky.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the weathered tower and earthy land keep the mood of the original.
Where an atmospheric landscape belongs
Its moody, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm lighting.
