Description
Van Gogh’s La Berceuse, hand-painted in oil
This is one of the five versions of La Berceuse Van Gogh painted in 1888-89, showing Augustine Roulin holding the cord of a cradle just out of view. He designed it to be deeply decorative and comforting, setting the calm figure against a wall of vivid green scattered with red and orange flowers, and imagined it hung between two of his sunflower paintings like a soothing centrepiece.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the flowered ground and calm figure keep the tenderness of the original.
Where a warm portrait belongs
Rich and homely, it suits a living room, a bedroom or a nursery, and pairs beautifully with greenery, warm woods and soft light.
