Description
Van Gogh’s Vase with Irises, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in May 1890, just before he left the asylum, this bold still life sets a full bunch of violet-blue irises in a vase against an intense yellow ground. Van Gogh deliberately pushed the violet and yellow into a vibrating complementary contrast, the flowers almost humming against the wall, one of the great flower pieces of his last months.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the violet blooms and blazing yellow keep the punch of the original.
Where a bold floral belongs
Vivid and striking, it lifts a living room, a dining room, a hallway or a study, and works with both warm and cool interiors.
