Description
Van Gogh’s The Old Church Tower at Nuenen, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1885, The Old Church Tower at Nuenen (also called The Peasant Churchyard) shows the crumbling medieval tower that stood in the fields near Van Gogh’s home, surrounded by the simple graves of country people. He painted it just before it was demolished, seeing the ruined tower and the peasant graves as a meditation on the passing of the old rural world, sombre, moving and rich in feeling.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the ruined tower and earthy churchyard keep the mood of the original.
Where an atmospheric scene belongs
Its sombre, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm, low lighting.
