Description
Van Gogh’s Mountainous Landscape Behind Saint-Paul Hospital, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this landscape looks past the wall of the asylum garden to the rolling green fields and the rugged grey-blue mountains of the Alpilles beyond. Van Gogh worked the whole scene in swirling, rhythmic strokes, the fields, rocks and sky all in motion, the wild country around his refuge turned into a landscape charged with restless energy.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the rolling fields and rugged hills keep the movement of the original.
Where a rugged landscape belongs
Its greens, greys and blues suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair naturally with wood and warm light.
