Description
Van Gogh’s Madame Roulin with Her Baby, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, this warm portrait shows Augustine Roulin, wife of Van Gogh’s friend the postman, holding her infant daughter Marcelle up before her. Painted in simple, glowing colour with a green ground, it is one of the tenderest of the many pictures Van Gogh made of the Roulin family, a plain, loving image of motherhood.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the soft colour and tender subject keep the warmth of the original.
Where a tender portrait belongs
A mother-and-child scene is naturally at home in a nursery, a bedroom or a family living room, and pairs beautifully with soft neutrals and greenery.
Choose a hand-painted oil or a fine-art print
Order it as a hand-painted oil for genuine brushwork and impasto relief, finished by an experienced painter and made to order, or as an archival fine-art print for a smooth, even finish at a lower price.
