Description
Van Gogh’s Women on the Peat Moor, hand-painted in oil
Painted in the remote Drenthe region in 1883, Women on the Peat Moor shows bent figures cutting and stacking peat on a vast, bleak moor under a heavy sky. Van Gogh went to Drenthe seeking the raw poetry of the moorland and the hard lives of its people, and painted them here in sombre browns and greys with deep sympathy, a moving, atmospheric picture of country labour.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the bent figures and bleak moor keep the feeling of the original.
Where an atmospheric scene belongs
Its sombre, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and soft lighting.
