Description
Van Gogh’s Portrait of Theo van Gogh, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris in 1887, this fresh portrait is long believed to show Theo van Gogh, Vincent’s younger brother, the art dealer who supported him all his life and to whom he wrote his famous letters. The fair-haired, blue-eyed figure, so like Vincent himself, is built from small, dabbed strokes of fresh colour. It is a warm, intimate tribute to the brother without whom Van Gogh could never have painted.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the fresh colour and gentle face keep the character of the original.
Where an intimate portrait belongs
Warm and personal, it suits a study, a living room or a hallway, and works well against plain, warm walls.
