Description
Van Gogh’s Portrait of Gauguin, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in late 1888, Portrait of Gauguin shows Paul Gauguin, the fellow artist who came to live and work with Van Gogh in the Yellow House, in a red beret, seen in profile against a rich coloured ground. Painted during their intense, difficult months together, it is a rare, direct record of the friend on whom Van Gogh had pinned his dream of a community of artists in the south.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the red beret and rich colour keep the character of the original.
Where a great portrait belongs
Warm and historic, it suits a study, a living room or a hallway, and works well against plain, warm walls.
