Description
Van Gogh’s Snow-Covered Field with a Harrow, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in early 1890, this quiet winter scene is Van Gogh’s reworking of a composition by Jean-François Millet, an artist he revered. A wooden harrow lies abandoned on a snow-covered field under a cold, pale sky, a distant farm beyond. Van Gogh reimagined Millet’s scene in his own soft blues, whites and warm accents, a still, atmospheric picture of the sleeping land.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the snowy field and cold light keep the mood of the original.
Where a winter scene belongs
Its cool, quiet tones suit a bedroom, a living room or a hallway, and pair well with pale walls, wood and soft light.
