Description
Van Gogh’s Garden of Saint Paul’s Hospital, Leaf-Fall, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1889 at the Saint-Rémy asylum, this autumn scene, which Van Gogh called ‘Leaf-Fall’, shows the great pine trunks of the garden shedding their leaves over a solitary figure on the path. He worked the tall, striped trunks and the falling leaves in warm russets, greens and violet with rolling strokes, a rich, melancholy vision of autumn in the grounds of his refuge.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the tall pines and falling leaves keep the mood of the original.
Where an autumn garden belongs
Its warm russets and greens suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair naturally with wood and warm light.
