Description
Van Gogh’s View of the Alpilles, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy around 1889-90, View of the Alpilles looks across rolling green fields and olive groves toward the jagged grey-blue peaks of the Alpilles mountains that ringed the asylum. Van Gogh worked the whole scene in swirling, rhythmic strokes, the fields, trees and rugged rock all set in restless motion, the wild country around his refuge turned into a landscape charged with energy.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the rolling fields and rugged peaks keep the movement of the original.
Where a rugged landscape belongs
Its greens, greys and blues suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair naturally with wood and warm light.
