Description
Van Gogh’s The Garden of the Asylum, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1889, this is one of the many views Van Gogh made of the walled garden of the Saint-Rémy asylum, where he was free to paint the trees, flower beds and paths just outside his room. Here the great trunks, autumn foliage and winding path are worked in warm colour and his rhythmic, curling strokes, a picture of the enclosed world that both confined him and gave him some of his richest late subjects.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the trees and rhythmic strokes keep the feeling of the original.
Where a garden scene belongs
Its warm, leafy tones suit a living room, a study or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with wood, greenery and natural light.
