Description
Van Gogh’s Sheaves of Wheat in a Field, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this shows rows of bound wheat sheaves standing in a stubble field after the harvest, under a wide, low sky. Van Gogh loved the wheatfield as a subject all his life, reading in the cutting and gathering of the grain the whole cycle of life and death; here the golden-brown sheaves are set down in the sober earth tones of his Dutch period with a quiet, rooted strength.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the standing sheaves and earthy tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a harvest scene belongs
Its warm, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
