Description
Van Gogh’s Garden of Saint-Paul Hospital with Figure, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this looks across the garden of the Saint-Paul asylum, where a lone figure walks beneath the great pines and along the winding paths Van Gogh knew so well. He painted this enclosed world many times through his year there; here the tall trunks, autumn foliage and solitary walker are worked in warm colour and his rhythmic, curling strokes, at once a real place and a quiet image of solitude.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the great pines and lone figure keep the feeling of the original.
Where a garden scene belongs
Its warm, leafy tones suit a living room, a study or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with wood, greenery and natural light.
