Description
Van Gogh’s Weaver Arranging Threads, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1884, this shows a weaver at work not at the loom but before it, carefully stretching and ordering the long warp threads that must be set up before the weaving can begin. Van Gogh studied every stage of the weavers’ craft with real attention; here the figure and the fine web of threads are worked in the warm browns and greys of his Dutch period, a patient picture of skilled manual labour.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the weaver and warm tones keep the character of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its dark, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm light.
