Description
Van Gogh’s Pine Trees against a Red Sky, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this dramatic landscape sets a group of dark, twisting pines against a sky burning red and gold with the setting sun, a low green field before them. Van Gogh was moved by the raw drama of the Provence dusk, and painted the tortured trunks and blazing sky in surging, rhythmic strokes of red, orange and green, one of the most intense and expressive of his late sunsets.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the dark pines and burning sky keep the power of the original.
Where a dramatic landscape belongs
Bold and glowing, it makes a statement in a living room, a study or a stairwell, and pairs well with warm woods and considered interiors.
