Description
Van Gogh’s View from Vincent’s Studio, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris in 1886, this quiet cityscape looks out from the window of the Montmartre apartment Van Gogh shared with his brother Theo, over a jumble of grey rooftops, chimneys and distant buildings under a soft sky. Newly arrived in the capital, he painted the ordinary view from his own window in muted, silvery tones, an intimate glimpse of the city he was just beginning to know.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the rooftops and muted tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a city view belongs
Its soft grey tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
