Description
Van Gogh’s Beach at Scheveningen in Calm Weather, hand-painted in oil
Painted at The Hague in 1882, this is one of Van Gogh’s earliest seascapes, made on the beach at Scheveningen. Under a wide, pale sky, fishing boats rest on the calm sand and a few small figures move along the shore, the quiet grey-green sea stretching to the horizon. Worked in the soft, sober tones of his early years, it already shows his deep feeling for sea, sky and weather.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the calm shore and soft tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a seascape belongs
Its calm grey-green tones suit a bedroom, a living room or a hallway, and pair beautifully with pale walls, wood and natural light.
