Description
Van Gogh’s Weaver Standing in Front of a Loom, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1884, this shows a weaver standing before the great dark frame of his wooden loom, seen from the side amid the beams and threads of the machine. Van Gogh studied the Brabant weavers again and again, fascinated by the huge apparatus that filled their small cottages; here the standing figure and the massive loom are worked in the warm browns and greys of his Dutch period with a grave, sympathetic realism.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the loom and standing weaver keep the character of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its dark, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm light.
