Description
Van Gogh’s Cottage with Trees, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this shows a low, thatched Brabant cottage half-hidden among a cluster of sheltering trees, their branches spread against a soft sky. Van Gogh loved these humble dwellings tucked into the landscape, and painted the cottage and trees as one settled, rooted whole; in the warm, sober tones of his Dutch period, the scene has a quiet, sheltering intimacy.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the cottage and trees keep the mood of the original.
Where a country scene belongs
Its warm, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
