Description
Van Gogh’s Still Life with a Basket of Apples, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in the autumn of 1885, this warm still life heaps ripe apples into a wicker basket on a table against a dark ground. Van Gogh painted a series of autumn fruit still lifes that year to study colour and rounded form; here the russet, gold and green apples are set down in loaded, vigorous strokes, solid and abundant, a picture of the country harvest.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the basket of apples and warm colour keep the abundance of the original.
Where an autumn still life belongs
Its warm harvest tones suit a kitchen, a dining room or a living room, and pair beautifully with wood and warm light.
