Description
Van Gogh’s Peasant Woman Laundering, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this study shows a peasant woman bent over a tub at her laundry, her body leaning into the heavy, repetitive work. Van Gogh painted many such scenes of country women at their daily tasks in the year of The Potato Eaters, admiring their endurance; modelled in the deep earth tones of his Dutch period, the stooped figure has a rooted, honest dignity.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the working figure and earthy tones keep the character of the original.
Where a working figure belongs
Its quiet, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and work well against neutral or darker walls.
