Description
Van Gogh’s Weaver Facing Right, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1884, this shows a weaver seated at his great wooden loom, turned to the right amid the beams and threads of the machine. Van Gogh made a whole series of the Brabant weavers, drawn to the drama of the huge loom filling the small cottage and to the intent, absorbed labour of the craft; here the working figure and dark apparatus are worked in the warm earth tones of his Dutch period with a grave, sympathetic realism.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the loom and weaver keep the character of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its dark, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm light.
