Description
Van Gogh’s Peasant Making a Basket, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this study shows a peasant man seated at his basket-weaving, his hands busy with the wicker as he bends to the work in the warm gloom of a cottage. Van Gogh admired the patient handcraft of the country people and painted many of them at their winter trades; modelled in the deep earth tones of his Dutch period, the absorbed figure has a quiet, honest dignity.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the working figure and warm tones keep the character of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its quiet, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and work well against neutral or darker walls.
