Description
Van Gogh’s The Willow, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this shows a gnarled, pollarded willow standing alone in the Brabant fields under a wide sky, its lopped crown sprouting thin new shoots. Van Gogh loved these old, hard-pruned willows, seeing in their stubborn, misshapen trunks something of the endurance of the country people; here the twisted tree is worked in the warm, earthy tones of his Dutch period with a rugged, sympathetic strength.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the gnarled willow and earthy tones keep the character of the original.
Where a tree study belongs
Its warm, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
