Description
Van Gogh’s Women Mending Nets in the Dunes, hand-painted in oil
Painted near The Hague in 1882, this early picture shows fishermen’s wives working at their nets on the windswept dunes above the sea. Van Gogh was drawn to the hard-working lives of the coastal poor, and painted the bent, laboring figures against the wide grey sky in the sober browns and greys of his early years, with a plain, sympathetic realism.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the working women and muted tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its sober, atmospheric tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
