Description
Van Gogh’s View of Montmartre with Quarry, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris in 1886, this shows the still half-rural heights of Montmartre, with a quarry, scattered figures and the old windmills on the ridge under a wide sky. Newly arrived from Holland, Van Gogh painted the quiet, open outskirts of the city as he lightened his palette; here the pale earth, greenery and grey sky are worked in soft, fresh tones full of air.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the open heights and fresh tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a Paris scene belongs
Its soft, airy tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
