Description
Van Gogh’s Rooftops in Paris, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1886 from a high window in Montmartre, this shows a jumble of grey Paris rooftops and chimneys running back to the hazy city and hills under a wide, soft sky. Newly arrived from Holland, Van Gogh painted the ordinary view above the city in muted, silvery tones, catching the light and air of the capital with a plain, atmospheric honesty.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the rooftops and muted tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a city view belongs
Its soft grey tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
