Description
Van Gogh’s River Bank in Springtime, hand-painted in oil
Painted near Asnières outside Paris in the spring of 1887, this shows the grassy bank of the Seine coming into fresh new leaf, the young greens and bright water sparkling under a soft sky. Van Gogh spent that spring painting the sunlit river alongside his Impressionist and Pointillist friends; here the fresh bank and shimmering water are built from small, separate touches of light colour, calm and full of the promise of spring.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the green bank and shimmering water keep the freshness of the original.
Where a spring riverside belongs
Its fresh, sunny greens suit a bedroom, a living room or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
