Description
Van Gogh’s The Banks of the Seine with Boats, hand-painted in oil
Painted near Asnières outside Paris in 1887, this bright riverside shows boats drawn up along the grassy banks of the shimmering Seine under a fresh sky. Van Gogh spent that spring and summer painting the sunlit river alongside his Impressionist and Pointillist friends; here the green banks, sparkling water and light air are built from small, separate touches of fresh colour, calm and full of sun.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the boats and shimmering water keep the freshness of the original.
Where a riverside scene belongs
Its fresh, sunny palette suits a living room, a bedroom or a bright hallway, and pairs beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
