Description
Van Gogh’s Snowy Landscape with Arles in the Background, hand-painted in oil
Painted just after Van Gogh reached Arles in the winter of 1888, this shows the flat fields under a rare fall of snow, with the town and its towers on the horizon. Coming from grey Paris, he was struck by the snow-covered Provence country; here the white ground, dark hedges and huddled town are worked in cool blues, whites and browns with a fresh, clear touch, a quiet, luminous winter landscape.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the snowy fields and cool tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a winter landscape belongs
Its cool, luminous tones suit a bedroom, a living room or a hallway, and pair beautifully with pale walls, wood and natural light.
