Painted near Arles in the spring of 1888, this fresh landscape shows a path winding through a green field past a row of gnarled pollard willows under a bright sky. Van Gogh loved the old willows and the fresh new growth of the Provence spring; here the winding path, sprouting trees and bright fields are worked in lively strokes of green, gold and blue, a calm, sunlit country scene full of the season.
