Description
Van Gogh’s The Bridge of Trinquetaille, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, this shows the great iron bridge of Trinquetaille over the Rhône, with its broad stone stairway climbing the near bank and small figures on the steps. Van Gogh was drawn to the modern ironwork and strong geometry of the bridge; here the pale stone, blue-grey iron and cool morning light are worked in firm strokes and a restrained, harmonious palette, a striking, modern city scene.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the iron bridge and cool tones keep the character of the original.
Where a city scene belongs
Its cool, restrained tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
