Description
Van Gogh’s Railway Carriages, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, this unusual picture shows a row of railway carriages standing in a siding under the bright southern sun, the tracks and gravel running across the foreground. Van Gogh was interested in the modern machinery of the railway that had brought him south; here the carriages, painted in strong yellows, greens and blues with firm strokes, make a bold, modern subject glowing with heat and colour.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the carriages and strong colour keep the character of the original.
Where a modern scene belongs
Bold and warm, it suits a study, a living room or a hallway, and pairs well with wood and considered interiors.
