Description
Van Gogh’s Red Chestnuts in the Public Park at Arles, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in the spring of 1889, this shows the great chestnut trees of the public garden in full flower, their branches lit with candles of red-pink blossom above the paths where a few figures walk. Van Gogh loved this garden, his ‘Poet’s Garden’; here the flowering chestnuts and fresh green are worked in rich, vigorous strokes of pink, green and blue, a warm, exuberant picture of the southern spring.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the flowering chestnuts and rich colour keep the vitality of the original.
Where a blossom scene belongs
Its warm spring colour suits a living room, a bedroom or a bright hallway, and pairs beautifully with wood, greenery and natural light.
