Description
Van Gogh’s Two Diggers among Trees, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this shows two peasants at work digging among a screen of slender trees, the ground and foliage worked in rich autumn colour. Van Gogh admired the labour of the country people and loved these immersive, close-up views of nature; here the bent figures and glowing trees are set down in his rhythmic, curling strokes of orange, green and blue, a warm, energetic scene of work in the grove.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the diggers and autumn colour keep the vitality of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its warm autumn tones suit a study, a living room or a hallway, and pair beautifully with wood, greenery and warm light.
