Description
Van Gogh’s Les Alpilles, Mountain Landscape at Saint-Remy, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this shows the rolling, wave-like Alpilles mountains rising behind a foreground with a slender tree and bushes, all beneath a sky of moving cloud. Van Gogh saw these hills as living, heaving forms and painted them again and again; here the surging hills, twisting tree and rolling sky are worked in his rhythmic strokes of green, blue and ochre, a powerful, elemental landscape.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the rolling hills and rhythmic strokes keep the power of the original.
Where a dramatic landscape belongs
Bold and rhythmic, it makes a statement in a living room, a study or a stairwell, and pairs well with warm woods and considered interiors.
