Description
Van Gogh’s Wild Flowers and Thistles in a Vase, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, in the last months of his life, this generous flower piece crowds wild field flowers, ears of wheat, grasses and spiky thistles into a vase against a soft ground. Van Gogh painted many quick studies of gathered flowers in these final months, drawn even to the hardy roadside thistle; here the mixed greens, golds and violet are set down in lively, feeling strokes, fresh and teeming with life.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the wild flowers and thistles keep the freshness of the original.
Where a flower still life belongs
Fresh and abundant, it suits a bedroom, a study or a living room, and pairs beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
