Description
Joseph Roulin Against a Floral Background
Joseph Roulin faces forward beneath a blue cap marked POSTES in yellow. His long beard curls across a dark blue coat, while pink flowers and looping stems cover the yellow-green background. A red Vincent signature appears near the upper left. The portrait shows his head and shoulders.
This reproduction follows the Barnes Foundation’s The Postman (Joseph-Étienne Roulin), accession BF37. Van Gogh painted this version in 1889. The original is oil on canvas, 65.7 cm high and 55.2 cm wide. The floral background identifies the Barnes painting among Van Gogh’s several portraits of Roulin.
Oil Painting or Canvas Art Print
Our primary edition is painted by hand in oils on canvas. The artist makes a new painted surface, with natural variation in the brushwork. A canvas art print of the same image is also available; its colour and visible brushmarks are reproduced in ink.
Size and Presentation
The size selector keeps the upright composition and offers formats both smaller and larger than the museum painting. Choose rolled canvas, canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher, a thin frame or a thick frame. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher, so it needs mounting or framing before hanging.
For the hand-painted oil edition, we send a photograph of the completed painting for your approval before dispatch. Use the current selectors to choose the size and presentation of your order. Both editions are made to order and ship free worldwide.
