Description
Van Gogh’s Baby Marcelle Roulin, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, this tender close-up shows Marcelle, the baby daughter of Van Gogh’s friend the postman Joseph Roulin. He set the round, wide-eyed infant against a soft green ground and painted her in warm, simple colour, one of the gentlest of the many portraits he made of the whole Roulin family.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the soft colour and tender face keep the charm of the original.
Where a tender portrait belongs
A portrait of a baby is naturally at home in a nursery, a bedroom or a family living room, and pairs beautifully with soft neutrals and greenery.
