Description
Van Gogh’s Postman Joseph Roulin, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, Postman Joseph Roulin shows Van Gogh’s good friend the postman, seated in his blue, gold-buttoned uniform, his great beard spread across his chest. Van Gogh admired Roulin’s warmth and republican spirit and painted him many times; here the deep blue coat sits against a plain ground with wonderful presence, a portrait full of affection and dignity.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the deep blue, gold buttons and steady gaze keep the warmth of the original.
Where a great portrait belongs
Warm and commanding, it anchors a study, a living room or a hallway, and works best against plain, warm walls.
