Description
Van Gogh’s Marguerite Gachet at the Piano, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in June 1890, this tall, tender picture shows Marguerite Gachet, daughter of Van Gogh’s friend Dr Gachet, in a pale pink dress playing an upright piano, the wall behind her patterned with dabs of orange on green and the floor with red dots. From the last weeks of his life, it is calm and decorative, a quiet image of music and concentration in fresh, patterned colour.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the pink figure and patterned room keep the charm of the original.
Where a musical portrait belongs
Calm and decorative, it suits a living room, a study, a music room or a hallway, and works well against plain, warm walls.
