Description
Van Gogh’s The Siesta, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in early 1890, The Siesta is Van Gogh’s warm reworking of a drawing by Jean-François Millet, an artist he revered. Two peasants lie asleep in the shade of golden haystacks at noon, their shoes and sickles set aside, a cart and blue sky beyond. Van Gogh reimagined Millet’s scene in glowing complementary blue and gold, a picture of rest, warmth and the rhythm of country life.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the golden hay, blue shadows and restful figures keep the warmth of the original.
Where a warm rural scene belongs
Its blue-and-gold calm suits a bedroom, a living room or a hallway, and pairs beautifully with wood and warm light.
