Description
Van Gogh’s Seascape near Les Saintes-Maries, hand-painted in oil
Painted on the Mediterranean coast in the summer of 1888, this vivid seascape shows the choppy green-and-blue sea off Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a few small fishing boats with white sails riding the waves under a bright sky. Thrilled by his first sight of the southern sea, Van Gogh painted the ever-changing water in thick, energetic strokes of turquoise, violet and white, fresh, alive and full of movement.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the choppy sea and white sails keep the vitality of the original.
Where a vivid seascape belongs
Bright and fresh, it suits a living room, a bedroom or a bathroom, and pairs beautifully with white walls, wood and warm light.
