Description
Van Gogh’s Four Withered Sunflowers, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris in 1887, this is one of a group of studies in which Van Gogh laid cut sunflower heads flat, past their bloom and gone to seed, against a glowing ground. Fascinated by the great flowers at every stage of their life, he painted the dry petals, thick seed-heads and curling stems in rich oranges, browns and blues laid on thick, the powerful studies that led directly to his famous vases of sunflowers in Arles.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the seed-heads and thick colour keep the character of the original.
Where a sunflower study belongs
Warm and striking, it suits a living room, a study or a kitchen, and pairs beautifully with warm woods and natural light.
