Van Gogh’s Landscape at Twilight, hand-painted in oil

Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, in the last weeks of his life, this shows a quiet village street with houses and a pair of pear trees under a wide sky flushed with the yellow and green of dusk. Van Gogh loved the calm of the evening hour, and worked the scene in soft, rhythmic strokes and glowing colour, a peaceful, luminous landscape from his final summer.
