Description
Van Gogh’s Haystacks under a Rainy Sky, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, in the last weeks of his life, this shows two great haystacks in a field under a heavy, rain-laden sky, the wet air rendered in long, slanting strokes. Van Gogh painted the plain around Auvers in all weathers; here the muted greens, ochres and greys and the driving diagonal rain give the humble ricks a brooding, atmospheric power.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the hayricks and rain-swept sky keep the mood of the original.
Where an atmospheric landscape belongs
Its muted, moody tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
